The Cleveland Guardians have been magnificent this season.
Their 33-17 record has them at the top of the AL Central, and they have already built a 1.5-game lead over the Kansas City Royals and a 6.5-game lead over the Minnesota Twins.
Lots of things have gone right for the team to boast such a great record.
First of all, the pitching staff has been magnificent, particularly the bullpen.
Guardians relievers have the lowest ERA in baseball at 2.52.
The starters have also been solid, and have overcome the loss of Shane Bieber to an elbow injury.
The offense has had from contributions from the usual suspects, such as Jose Ramirez, Andres Gimenez, Josh Naylor, and Steven Kwan.
David Fry, however, has emerged as an underrated source of production in the season’s first two months.
He has been particularly productive in May, though, as the Guardians themselves highlighted in a recent tweet.
“David Fry has been some kind of hot since May started,” they wrote, with a graphic.

Since May 1, Fry’s .395 batting average (!) is third in MLB among players with a minimum of 40 plate appearances.
His 1.267 OPS is second in baseball under the same criteria, and he has helped with four home runs and nine RBI.
Fry is a catcher by trade, but his versatility is what makes him such a special part of the roster.
In 2024, he has appeared behind the plate, at first base, at third, and left field.
He gives manager Stephen Vogt the chance to mix and match judging by opposing pitchers and his own players’ workloads.
Fry has been a valuable asset for the 2024 Guards, and has a solid .349/.486/.590 line for the season as a whole.
