The Cleveland Guardians scored early and often on Tuesday at Progressive Field, earning a comfortable 8-1 win over the San Francisco Giants. Deadline acquisition Jo Adell stole the show with three hits, including the longest home run hit by a Guardian this year at 455 feet, and six RBI.
The Guardians are now 61-65 on the season, still fighting in the messy American League Wild Card picture. They have to take things one game at a time, but their chances of making the postseason are still very much alive. Basically, they need their struggling offense to enjoy more nights like Tuesday’s.

Another deadline acquisition, starting pitcher Foster Griffin, was magnificent from the mound on Tuesday. He got the win after tossing six innings of one-run ball, allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out six.
The Jo Adell Show started in the opening frame, when he hit a towering three-run shot, his 19th of the year between the Guardians and the Los Angeles Angels, against Giants starter Carson Whisenhunt. Bryce Eldridge took Griffin deep to cut the deficit to 3-1, but Cleveland’s offense struck again in the second.
With Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan in scoring position, Adell came up big again, this time with a two-run single that made it a 5-1 ballgame.
In the bottom of the fourth, Adell notched his sixth RBI of the night with another single, this time scoring Brayan Rocchio. A few moments later, a groundout by Angel Martinez scored Kwan and pushed the score to 7-1, in Cleveland’s favor.
The home team would produce another run in the bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded, Patrick Bailey grounded into a force out that initially looked like an inning-ending double-play, but the first baseman missed the catch and allowed Martinez to cross home.
Matt Festa, Tim Herrin, and Craig Yoho took the Guardians to the finish line with scoreless relief appearances.
Adell was the star of the night for Cleveland, but it’s important to note that Kwan scored three runs, Ramirez hit a double and two additional hits, and rookie Angel Genao contributed two more knocks.
The Guardians will do it again on Wednesday, as Parker Messick will take the mound to try to keep the wins coming.
