Steven Kwan certainly knows how to make an occasion special. The Cleveland Guardians outfielder notched a significant achievement last week, and he did it in style.
On Saturday, in the bottom of the seventh inning against the San Diego Padres, Kwan stole home. It was his second run scored of the game, which put him at a nice round number.
With that play, Kwan reached a major career milestone, as it was his 400th run scored in the majors.

Kwan’s steal of home was not a dramatic one in the style of Jackie Robinson. Instead, it was more of a scoring ruling.
With runners on first and third, Guardians outfielder Chase DeLauter attempted to steal second base. Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth dropped the throw from his catcher and then threw wildly to third base with Kwan heading home.
It still goes in the box score as a steal of home, so years from now, Kwan can tell that story any way he wants. He should be very proud of the achievement, as earlier in the season it looked like the five-year veteran might not get there.
Mired in an extended slump, Kwan’s batting average dipped below .200 in mid-May. He eventually was moved out of the leadoff spot, where he had batted for most of his career, and which allowed him to score at least 80 runs in each of his first four seasons.
However, since the All-Star break, Kwan has been on a tear, which led to him being reinserted at the top of the order. He has scored 21 runs since July 1, to give him 54 on the season.
Unfortunately, Kwan’s resurgence has not done much to help the Guardians overall. They are 9-19 since the break and have been shut out five times since July 25, including twice in their past four games.
Cleveland enters play on Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants 5.5 games behind the first-place Chicago White Sox in the AL Central, and eighth in the AL Wild Card race.
