The Guardians could not complete the series turnaround, falling 5-3 to the White Sox in the rubber match at Guaranteed Rate Field and dropping the weekend series two games to one. Chicago pushed across four runs in the third inning to seize control, and Cleveland’s bullpen, working through six different arms in relief of starter Joey Cantillo, could not fully contain the damage down the stretch. The loss sends the Guardians on the road to Detroit as they continue searching for the kind of consistency Stephen Vogt has been preaching all week.

Cleveland actually opened the game with the early advantage, scoring two runs in the top of the first before Chicago answered with a run of its own in the bottom half. The White Sox then broke the game open in the third, plating four runs to take a 5-2 lead that Cleveland was never quite able to overcome. Steven Kwan led the Guardians offensively with two hits, while Jose Ramirez added two hits and an RBI of his own in his continued effort to work his way fully back from his wrist issue. Brayan Rocchio and Angel Genao each chipped in a hit, and Genao scored a run to extend his strong start to his young career.
The pitching staff cycled through a heavy workload trying to keep the deficit manageable, with Cantillo, Tim Herrin, Craig Yoho, Colin Holderman, Erik Sabrowski, Hunter Gaddis and Cade Smith all seeing action out of the bullpen. Yoho in particular struggled in his outing, allowing four runs on two hits in just a third of an inning, a rough note for one of Cleveland’s own trade deadline additions. Herrin, Holderman, Sabrowski, Gaddis and Smith combined to shut the door the rest of the way, but the early deficit proved too much for the offense to fully claw back from.
The result drops Cleveland to 58-62 on the season as the club now shifts its attention to a road series against the Tigers. With the American League Central race still tightly bunched, every series carries added weight, and the Guardians will look to right the ship quickly as they continue trying to translate their reshaped roster into more consistent results down the stretch.
