The Guardians could not carry Friday’s momentum into Saturday, falling 6-3 to the White Sox in a game that slipped away in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gavin Williams turned in a mixed outing on the mound, working 5.2 innings while striking out seven but issuing two walks and ultimately taking the loss after the White Sox broke through in the sixth. The bullpen behind him could not slow the bleeding either, with Colin Holderman allowing three runs without recording an out before Erik Sabrowski, Tim Herrin and Matt Festa worked to close out the game. That kind of collapse in a single inning undid what had otherwise been a competitive afternoon for Cleveland’s pitching staff.
Offensively, the Guardians did not go quietly. Rhys Hoskins provided one of the few power threats in the lineup, going 2-3 with a home run and two RBIs, while rookie Angel Genao continued his strong start to his career, going 2-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a home run of his own. Angel Martinez added two more hits after his monster night on Friday, and Steven Kwan, Jo Adell, Chase DeLauter, Brayan Rocchio and Travis Bazzana each chipped in a base hit as well. Jose Ramirez appeared as a pinch hitter and later moved to third base, continuing to be managed carefully as he works his way back from his wrist issue.
Despite the offense spreading eleven hits across the lineup, Cleveland could not overcome the damage done in Chicago’s decisive sixth inning. The loss leaves the Guardians at 58-60 on the season, still fighting to climb back over .500 as the stretch run continues. Sunday’s rubber match now carries extra weight, with both the division standings and the broader Wild Card picture hanging in the balance as Cleveland looks to answer back after a frustrating finish.
