The Cleveland Guardians welcomed a new reliever on Saturday when they acquired Craig Yoho (and outfielder Blake Perkins) from the Brewers in the trade that sent Bo Naylor and Codi Heuer to Milwaukee.
Their bullpen is rock-solid, with guys like Cade Smith, Erik Sabrowski, Hunter Gaddis, Colin Holderman, and Franco Aleman being effective most of the time. Yoho, however, gives them a pitcher with a completely different skill set than all of them.
Most of the aforementioned hurlers are power guys who use a four-seam fastball most of the time. Yoho, however, has an excellent changeup that is considered the foundation of his unique repertoire.
Manager Stephen Vogt had a lot to say about him after watching him dominate for an inning on Sunday’s win.
“It’s fun. It’s a lot more fun watching him throw that changeup in a Guardians uniform than it was, you know, a month ago. Not an easy task to come in and get three outs in a big game like that. Liked his stuff. Good power-sinker. Changeup’s funky, even from the side. We’re really happy he’s here,” Vogt said.

Yoho pitched a clean inning in the 5-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, striking out one without allowing a hit or walk. It was a smooth Guardians debut, with 12 pitches, 7 of which were strikes.
Yoho, who has five full seasons of cheap control after 2026, had been pitching very well for the Brewers, with a 3.15 ERA in 20 innings. He walked eight and struck out 18 with the NL Central leaders before landing in Cleveland.
Before that, he had posted a brilliant 0.78 ERA in 23 frames in Triple-A, with 29 strikeouts. Evidently, the talent is there for him to be a fixture in the Guardians’ bullpen for years to come.
The 2023 eighth-rounder has what it takes to help Vogt fortify his relief corps ahead of the stretch run, as the Guardians try to catch the Chicago White Sox at the top of the AL Central. His excellent changeup and east-west style make him a matchup nightmare.
