The Cleveland Guardians farm system has produced no shortage of interesting names this year, and catcher Kody Huff is quietly building a case that he belongs in that conversation.
Huff has taken an unusual path to this point. He was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 32nd round of the 2019 draft out of Horizon High School before later being taken by the Colorado Rockies in the seventh round of the 2022 draft following his time at Stanford. Cleveland eventually added him to the organization, and this season at Triple-A Columbus he has turned in his best offensive performance yet.
Through 78 games with the Clippers, Huff is hitting .279 with an on-base percentage of .393 and a slugging mark of .532, numbers that add up to a .925 OPS. He has already launched 14 home runs and driven in 57 runs, and his power output has not gone unnoticed among those who follow the organization closely.
Cade Cracas highlighted that power following Huff’s latest performance for Columbus.

Huff’s .925 OPS this season is by far the best full-season mark of his professional career, topping every previous stop across five minor league seasons and three collegiate campaigns. His combination of power and on base skills stands out even more given that he plays a premium defensive position in catcher, a spot where Cleveland has recently had to lean on Austin Hedges and Patrick Bailey at the major league level.
Huff’s path through three different organizations before landing in Cleveland speaks to the kind of development challenge he has faced, yet his numbers this year suggest that development is starting to pay off in a real way. A jump to the big leagues would not be a reach based on how he has performed at the highest level of the minors.
Cleveland will continue to monitor its catching depth closely as the season moves forward, and Huff’s continued production only adds another name to a farm system that has generated plenty of buzz in 2026.
