The mid-summer classic is just a few weeks away with the MLB All-Star Game set to take place on July 14th in Philadelphia. On Saturday, the league announced the official rosters, and Cleveland Guardians fans came away quite pleased with the outcome.
Cleveland surprised a few people and got three players named to the game. Cade Smith, Travis Bazzana, and Parker Messick will all be heading to Philly for the first time, and the Guardians even made a little bit of history in the process.
MLB.com’s Tim Stebbins shared that the Guardians are just the fifth team in MLB history to have multiple rookies make the All-Star team.
“Guardians are also just the fifth team in history to have multiple rookies named All-Stars, according to Elias, following the 1951 White Sox, 1960 Orioles, 2008 Cubs and the 2014 Yankees,” said Stebbins.

Cleveland sending multiple rookies to Philly is a testament to how great of a job this organization has done developing young talent. These three stars are just a few of the many outstanding young potential future All-Stars this organization is producing, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see others such as Chase DeLauter, Angel Martinez, Gavin Williams, and plenty of other young Guardians in upcoming All-Star Games.
The Guards will be well represented in a year where Jose Ramirez is out injured and Steven Kwan is having the worst year of his career. Their two perennial All-Stars have paved the way for the next wave of young talent, and it gives fans a ton of hope for the future that all these timelines can overlap perfectly enough to finally bring this city a World Series.
The Guardians may have fallen to the Chicago White Sox on Saturday and set up a pivotal matchup on Sunday with the series and the division lead on the line, but regardless, it was a great day for Guardians fans. It’s always fun to see a player make their first All-Star team, and for these three, it should just be the first of many.
