The Cleveland Guardians have a clear identity by now.
They play hard and they won’t be out-hustled.
Their pitchers are good enough to give the offense a chance in most games, and the offense is good enough to capitalize on those chances most nights.
Manager Stephen Vogt has done a good job getting his players to run out every groundball or play as if it were the last.
This aggressiveness can often be detrimental to the Guardians when they can’t tone it down a little.
For example, there were a couple of outs on the basepaths in the weekend series against the Atlanta Braves.
However, Vogt doesn’t want his players to slow down: he is willing to live with the consequences.
“‘I don’t every want these guys to slow down. Let’s learn from the mistakes and just keep getting better.’ Stephen Vogt says the team made some mistakes with how aggressive they were in their base running, but he doesn’t want the them to dial back their aggression,” Bally Sports Cleveland tweeted after Sunday’s loss.

The Guards dropped the series in Atlanta, but were competitive against one of the top teams in the league and managed to win one of the three games.
It’s clear that Vogt wants his players to go for that extra base instead of being extra careful or passive on the basepaths.
This is the brand of baseball Vogt wants his team to play:
Create chaos. Steal bases.

It’s part of the Guardians’ identity.
There will be a couple of outs, but also more runs and energy.
It’s a fair tradeoff in the mind of the skipper, and it’s part of what makes Cleveland great.
