After dropping two out of three games in three consecutive series, the Cleveland Guardians headed home for a ten-game homestand beginning with the Seattle Mariners on Friday. Unfortunately, the offense faltered once again and Cleveland fell 3-1 to drop to 42-40 and a game back of the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central.
The offense that had been starting to click a few weeks back has come to a screeching halt now that Jose Ramirez, Angel Martinez, and Chase DeLauter have all been out injured. The team is in dire need of a spark from wherever it can find it, but despite the lull, manager Stephen Vogt continues to stay the course and recently raved about one of his best young bats.
Vogt recently sang the praises of young second baseman Travis Bazzana during his press conference. He said he is impressed with where Bazzana is in his development.
“Travis is miles ahead of most people when it comes to understanding where he is and not allowing one at bat to dictate how he feels about himself,” said Vogt

Bazzana has continued to find ways to impact the game, but he hasn’t been immune to this team’s offensive woes either. He is now hitting under .200 in June and is 0-for-13 with seven strikeouts over his last three games.
There is no reason to be concerned since Bazzana still has under 200 at-bats in the big leagues. The league is simply adjusting to him and it’s now his turn to adjust back.
The loss of three of the team’s best hitters behind him certainly isn’t helping, but reinforcements should be coming rather soon as DeLauter nears his return. As talented as Bazzana is, he can’t do this alone and the White Sox aren’t going anywhere.
This is a pivotal stretch of Cleveland’s season even though the American League is completely wide open halfway through the season. Bazzana’s arrival has been the bright spot of the season, but it’s time for him to readjust and help this team stay the course until some of his fellow hitters can get back on the diamond.
