The Cleveland Guardians are in the middle of a division race right now, but one national analyst took a step back from the daily standings and evaluated what this organization looks like over the next three years. The verdict was largely positive, with one familiar caveat attached.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter ranked all 30 MLB teams by their current three-year plan and placed Cleveland fifth overall, a strong endorsement of the foundation the organization has built through development and roster construction.
“The Guardians lean heavily on controllable, homegrown talent, and they have welcomed Travis Bazzana, Parker Messick and Chase DeLauter into key roles in 2026. Their ability to develop pitching goes a long way, though the front office’s unwillingness to spend waters down what looks like financial flexibility,” Reuter wrote.
Bazzana is batting .255 with four home runs, 17 RBI, and a .764 OPS across 141 at bats in 38 games. At home specifically he is hitting .254 with a .361 OBP. Messick sits at 6-2 with a sparkling 2.40 ERA, 78 strikeouts, and a 1.07 WHIP through his starts in 2026, ranking sixth in the American League in ERA and 21st in strikeouts. He is 3-0 with a 2.41 ERA in home starts, which makes Wednesday’s series finale against the Yankees at Progressive Field a matchup that sets up well for Cleveland. DeLauter is tied for the team lead in RBI with 32 despite battling through an extended power slump. That is three first-round picks paying dividends simultaneously.
Fifth overall in a three-year outlook is a meaningful distinction for a market that does not operate like New York or Los Angeles. The core is young, controllable, and talented. The pitching development machine keeps producing. Jose Ramirez is signed through 2032 and sets the standard for everyone who enters that clubhouse.
The next three years in Cleveland look bright. Whether the front office eventually decides to match that brightness with the kind of financial commitment that turns a good team into a great one remains the central question.
