The crowd at Progressive Field tried to rattle Jazz Chisholm Jr. on Tuesday night. He answered in the most decisive way possible.
The Yankees second baseman stepped to the plate to lead off the eighth inning with the score tied 2-2. Chisholm worked the count full against Tim Herrin, then deposited a slider at the top of the zone over the right field wall for his ninth home run of the season. New York held on for a 3-2 win.

The loss dropped Cleveland to 37-32 and extended their current skid to five losses in the last six games, with the offense averaging just 2.7 runs during that stretch. The Yankees improved to 40-26 and have now won three straight against the Guardians after dropping the first two meetings in New York last week.
All three New York runs on Tuesday came via the home run ball.
Gerrit Cole lasted just four innings for the Yankees, allowing two runs on five hits, the shortest outing of his career against Cleveland. In his last two starts against the Guardians, Cole has given up six earned runs on 10 hits across 9.1 innings.
DeLauter finished 1-4 with a walk and an RBI. Jose Ramirez went 2-5 and scored a run. Kyle Manzardo went 2-4 with a walk. Angel Martinez went 2-5 with an RBI. Beyond that, the offense stalled repeatedly when it mattered most. The Guardians went 2-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded 13 runners on base, a number that tells the complete story of why a game against a shorthanded Yankees lineup ended in defeat.
Parker Messick faces Ricardo Rodon in the series finale Wednesday afternoon at 1:10 p.m. at Progressive Field. Cleveland desperately needs a win to avoid being swept at home by a Yankees team missing Aaron Judge and several other key contributors.
