The Cleveland Guardians and their fans are all still trying to come to terms with the fact that ace Shane Bieber’s season is over already after it was discovered he needed Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.
Moving on without your ace always seems like an impossible task, and in many ways it is, but the organization is doing its best to continue its hot start without letting the injury news tank the entire season.
Fans heard the thoughts of many around the organization yesterday, including executive Chris Antonetti, manager Stephen Vogt, pitching coach Carl Willis, and pitcher Logan Allen, with all of them speaking highly of Bieber and wishing him the best while also noting the importance of finding a way to keep the train on the tracks and find the next man up, via Bally Sports Cleveland.

“It’s okay to not be okay,” said Vogt, stressing the importance of letting Bieber feel everything he needs to feel and collectively grieving and getting through this tough time.
Antonetti noted Bieber’s toughness even being able to push as far as he did, noting the fact that he started the season so dominantly is a testament to his character given the type of physical ailment he was dealing with.
Bieber was off to a 2-0 start and had 20 strikeouts and just one walk over 12 scoreless innings so far in an effort to put last season’s disappointing 6-6, 3.80-ERA season in the rearview mirror.
Hearing the pain of players and coaches throughout the organization is therapeutic, and everyone is aligned in wishing Bieber well and hoping he’s back as soon as possible.
