The Cleveland Guardians called up top prospect Travis Bazzana earlier this week to provide a much-needed shot in the arm to what has at times been a lifeless offense, and he finally had himself a day on Saturday. After a few hitless outings to begin his tenure, Bazzana roped a two-run single on Saturday to contribute to Cleveland’s 14-6 beatdown over the Athletics for his first MLB hit.
Bazzana had a walk and a steal as well and helped keep the line moving while the Guardians racked up 14 hits and six walks altogether. He may just have one hit through 13 at bats so far, but the plate discipline has already been on full display with five walks through his first four games.
Bazzana spoke with reporter Cayleigh Griffin after the game and talked about his first hit and the win. Griffin asked him about the at bat in which he got his first hit, which came in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and two outs.
“He was kind of in and around the zone, and that last one I was able to square it up the middle…good to get that one, and now just keep rolling,” said Bazzana.

Bazzana hasn’t looked overwhelmed at all and hopefully this hit is just the first of many. He has an advanced approach at the plate and doesn’t have a ton of pressure on him to carry the offense since he is batting seventh and has plenty of talent around him.
Cleveland’s main issue at the plate has been consistency. The offense clearly has more talent than it did last year when Cleveland had arguably the worst offense in the league, but there are still far too many nights where the Guardians can’t even squeeze more than two or three runs across the plate.
Bazzana should help a lot in the long run, and it’s hard to see him going back down. Hopefully, he is here for good and can immediately establish himself as a foundational star for the future.
