Sunday was already a good day at Progressive Field. Austin Hedges made sure it became an unforgettable one.
After the Cleveland Guardians closed out their series against the Baltimore Orioles with an 8-4 victory, Hedges took the field for a moment that had nothing to do with baseball. The veteran catcher got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend at Progressive Field, capping off a win with one of the biggest moments of his personal life.
Cleveland.com beat writer Joe Noga shared the news on X, posting a photo of the couple celebrating the moment on the field.
“Congrats to Hedgey and the future Mrs.: Guardians catcher Austin Hedges proposes at Progressive Field after win over Orioles,” Noga posted on X.

It was the kind of scene that reminds you there is more going on inside a clubhouse than box scores and pitch counts. The ballpark that Hedges has called home during his time in Cleveland became the backdrop for one of the most meaningful moments of his life, and by all accounts, the answer was yes.
On the field this season, Hedges has been a steady presence behind the plate for a Guardians club that has built its reputation on pitching and defense. Through nine games played in 2026, he is hitting .292 with a .708 OPS, numbers that represent a genuine offensive uptick for a catcher whose career average sits at .186.
Hedges, 33, was originally drafted by the San Diego Padres in the second round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, California. He has spent parts of 15 seasons in professional baseball and has worn the ring of a World Series champion, part of the Texas Rangers organization when they claimed the title in 2023. He brought that experience and leadership to Cleveland, where he has been valued as much for what he brings to the pitching staff as what he contributes with the bat.
The Guardians have plenty to play for this season, sitting at 13-10 and squarely in the middle of the American League Central race. But on Sunday afternoon at Progressive Field, the headline belonged to Hedgey.
