Cleveland took care of business on Sunday, and Jose Ramirez made sure of it.
The Guardians closed out their home series against the Baltimore Orioles with an 8-4 victory at Progressive Field, taking three out of four from Baltimore. Cleveland improved to 13-10 with the win, a strong bounce-back result for a team that has been searching for some offensive consistency early in the season.
Ramirez was the story from start to finish.
He went 2-4 with two runs scored, two RBI and two home runs, doing his damage against Baltimore starter Trevor Rogers. His first blast came in the fourth inning to get Cleveland rolling in what would become an explosive frame. He went deep again in the fifth to answer back after the Orioles cut the lead to one, making it his sixth home run of the season and his fourth in the last seven games.

The back-to-back home runs at Progressive Field also moved Ramirez into sole possession of second place on Cleveland’s all-time home run list, surpassing Earl Averill at 137. Only franchise legend Jim Thome, who sits at 184, remains ahead of him. Sunday also marked the 28th multi-homer game of Ramirez’s career, extending his own franchise record.
Joey Cantillo started on the mound for Cleveland and was sharp through four innings, racking up six strikeouts before running into trouble in the fifth.
The bullpen took it from there and delivered.
Peyton Pallette tossed two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and earned his first big league win, improving to 1-1. Erik Sabrowski worked a scoreless eighth with three punchouts, and Shawn Armstrong handled a clean ninth. Altogether the Cleveland relief corps combined for 4.1 scoreless frames to close out the victory.
Cleveland has now won 6 of its last 6 matchups against Baltimore.
The Houston Astros come to Progressive Field on Monday to open a three-game series.
