Jose Ramirez entered the 2026 MLB season within reach of multiple franchise records for the Cleveland Guardians. Some of them took longer than expected to fall, thanks to his extended slump over the first two weeks.
Now, after climbing the franchise leaderboard for doubles, Ramirez is moving up in another offensive category. After going 2-for-3 against the Baltimore Orioles, the third baseman has taken a step forward in multi-hit games.
According to Tim Stebbins of MLB.com, Ramirez has moved up on the historic Guardians’ list, passing Omar Vizquel and getting closer to Lou Boudreau.
“Jose Ramirez just broke a tie with Omar Vizquel for seventh in franchise history for the most multi-hit games (464). Lou Boudreau (475) is sixth,” Stebbins posted on X.

Ramirez likely would have done this sooner, but he got off to an uncharacteristically poor start. He went 4-for-28 on the season-opening seven-game road trip before getting his first multi-hit game in the home opener against the Chicago Cubs.
An 0-for-13 cold streak followed. But since then, Ramirez has had five two-hit games in his past eight outings, which has raised his batting average from .133 to .224.
In his 14th season with Cleveland, Ramirez was able to set some franchise records this season just by showing up. He became the franchise leader in games played, at 1,620, breaking a mark that was held by Terry Turner for more than 100 years. More recently, he set the record for career at-bats, at 6,040, surpassing Nap Lajoie, who was atop that list for more than a century.
Ramirez is also taking on the MLB record book as well. He recently moved up on the list of career home runs by a switch-hitter after he became the first Cleveland player to homer against every team.
Later this season, Ramirez is likely to become the ninth player in history to reach 300 career home runs and 300 career stolen bases. He can also be the second player to have three straight 30-30 seasons.
Some franchise records may take a little longer to break, but with plenty of time after getting a contract extension this offseason, Ramirez can set his sights on having all of them one day.
