The Cleveland Guardians are making a move to bolster their pitching staff heading into a busy Sunday.
The team officially recalled left-handed pitcher Logan Allen from the Columbus Clippers, giving the rotation an additional arm as the club prepares for a doubleheader. Allen had been optioned to Columbus on March 21 after a spring training in which he went 0-2 with an 18.00 ERA over 10 innings across four appearances. The results were not what anyone was hoping for, but the Guardians clearly believe a brief stay in Triple-A was enough to get him right.
“The Guardians have recalled LHP Logan Allen from AAA Columbus. He’s the 27th player for today’s doubleheader,” Horodyski said.

Having Allen available gives manager Stephen Vogt another option to work with as the team navigates two games in one day. Whether he factors into the rotation or serves in a small role, his presence gives Cleveland the flexibility it needed to add.
Allen, 27, has spent three seasons working his way through the big league picture with the Guardians. Over that stretch he has made 73 starts and compiled a 4.48 ERA across 379.1 innings, with 320 strikeouts and a 1.445 WHIP. The numbers have been inconsistent, and last season’s 4.25 ERA over 156.2 innings reflected a pitcher who is still searching for the command and consistency needed to hold down a reliable rotation spot.
Allen has the stuff to compete at this level. The question has always been whether he can do it consistently enough over a full season. The Guardians have not given up on finding that answer, and Sunday gives him another opportunity to make his case.
Cleveland enters the doubleheader at 5-3. They will need every arm available.
