The Cleveland Guardians are quickly learning they can rely on Chase DeLauter in big moments.
After already making history in his first two games, the rookie delivered again on Saturday night, helping power Cleveland to a dramatic 6-5 extra-inning win over the Seattle Mariners.
DeLauter came through with the biggest swing of the night.
After being held hitless through his first five at-bats, he stepped up in the 10th inning and crushed a two-run home run to left field off Andres Munoz, giving the Guardians the lead for good. It was his fourth home run in his first three career games, continuing one of the most remarkable starts in recent memory.

“I was on fastballs all night,” DeLauter said. “Unfortunately, it didn’t really go my way for most of it, but I stuck with a plan and got a heater up and just went after it.”
DeLauter became just the third player in Major League Baseball history to homer in each of his first three career games. He joins Kyle Lewis, who did it in 2019, and Trevor Story, who did it in 2016.
After the game, his teammates made it clear just how special the moment was.
“What DeLauter did with an elite fastball from an elite pitcher is just stupid,” Steven Kwan said. “To be able to do it here with the wind blowing in and that big fence out there, it’s as talented as you can be. It’s just so impressive.”
DeLauter is not just off to a hot start. He is making history while doing it.
Through three games, he has already delivered power, clutch hitting, and a level of confidence that suggests he belongs. If this is a sign of what is to come, the Guardians may have found a true difference maker in the middle of their lineup.
And for now, Cleveland is riding his historic start to early-season momentum.
