A respected Cleveland insider has shared an encouraging update on Travis Bazzana as spring workouts get underway.
According to Terry Pluto, the early reports on the Guardians’ top prospect have been positive.
“As for Travis Bazzana, I heard he’s looked good so far in workouts, etc. It’s very early,” Pluto wrote. “The top pick in the 2024 draft is destined to open the season in Class AAA Columbus. The Guardians also want him to remain at second base. Bazzana needs to stay healthy. He pulled both oblique muscles last season.”
Bazzana entered the organization with high expectations after being selected with the top pick in the 2024 draft. Known for his bat speed, plate discipline, and competitive edge, he quickly became one of the franchise’s most important prospects. Hearing that he has looked sharp in workouts suggests he is building momentum heading into a critical year.
However, Pluto made it clear that patience is still required. It is only February, and live games have barely begun.
The plan for Bazzana to open the season at Triple-A Columbus is not surprising. The Guardians have traditionally challenged their top prospects but also ensured they receive enough seasoning before reaching the majors. Columbus will provide Bazzana with experienced pitching and daily reps in a competitive environment.
The organization also appears committed to keeping him at second base.
Health will be the biggest storyline to monitor. Last season, Bazzana dealt with a rare and frustrating setback, pulling both oblique muscles. Oblique injuries can linger and impact a hitter’s swing, so maintaining durability will be essential.
If Bazzana remains healthy and continues to impress in Columbus, the conversation about a potential major league debut will grow louder as the season progresses. For now, the message is simple. He looks good. It is early.
And the next step is proving he can stay healthy and productive over a full season.
