George Valera made some noise during his brief stint with the Cleveland Guardians at the tail end of the 2025 season, including the home run and the double he hit in his brief seven-at-bat postseason stint. With the front office opting not to make any big additions to the outfield this offseason, right field is now Valera’s for the taking if he can seize the opportunity and build on the momentum he generated at the end of last season.
The 25-year-old fought through plenty of injuries in the minors to make it to Cleveland, and now that he’s here, he is willing to do whatever it takes to stay there. He has already sent a message to the fans and to his teammates that he is ready to roll, and if things go according to plan, he could be the team’s breakout player that helps guide the Guardians to a third straight AL Central crown.
During a recent interview with Mason Horodyski of WEWS, Valera spoke to the fans and told them exactly what they’d want to hear. He said he’s willing to do whatever it takes and play wherever this team needs him to play.
“I’m willing to play wherever he (Stephen Vogt) puts me. Wherever he needs me, I’m willing to play,” Valera said.

Valera had a .748 OPS in his 41 regular season at-bats and is on track to break camp as the starting right fielder. He showed a solid eye with seven walks in his brief stint with the club last season, which is representative of the consistently impressive eye he showed at all levels of the minors.
With the front office openly stating they don’t have the payroll flexibility to go out and get the big bats this lineup so clearly needed over the past few years, the pressure falls on guys like Valera. Other bats are getting close to making it to the majors, so the time is now for Valera to start producing and solidify himself as part of the future.
Being willing to play wherever the team needs him is a great start.
