The Cleveland Guardians, as expected, have been one of the quietest teams in the MLB during the offseason. Other than some minor reinforcements for their bullpen, they haven’t done much to bolster the team.
This isn’t necessarily a surprise. For starters, they’re never the type of team that spends a lot of money or chases the most prominent names in free agency. More than that, it’s become quite obvious that they have plenty of faith in their farm system.
With that in mind, team analyst Cade Cracas named the five rookies he expects to have a prominent role on the team in 2026:
“Here are the five Cleveland Guardians prospects I expect to see play a good chunk of time in 2026 for the major league roster: 1. Chase DeLauter, 2. George Valera, 3. Khal Stephen, 4. Parker Messick, 5. Travis Bazzana. Each has a chance to drastically heighten this team’s ceiling,” Cracas posted on X.

The only surprise on this list is the fact that he didn’t name C.J. Kayfus. Perhaps that’s because he already played in a big chunk of games last season, or maybe it’s because he expects him to be Kyle Manzardo’s backup at first base and not play in the outfield as much as fellow rookies Chase DeLauter and George Valera.
As for Parker Messick, he should be a strong candidate to crack the starting rotation right away, given the impressive performances he had to close out last year. Fellow hurler Khal Stephen is an elite prospect, and after giving up Shane Bieber, they will certainly want to give him a look. Last but not least, Travis Bazzana was a strong candidate to make the roster last season.
And as a former No. 1 pick, and now that he’s at full strength, they will certainly give him as much playing time as he can handle.
