The Cleveland Guardians have always taken pride in their farm system. They know how to make the most of their young pitchers, developing and polishing them into legitimate stars.
That’s why it’s not a surprise to see that they always seem to have some of the most productive hurlers in the game. A Guardians pitcher consistently ranks among the league’s best in any category.
That was the case again last season. As shown by Sam Fosberg on X, rookie Joey Cantillo had one of the best ERAs in baseball (2.96).
Cantillo wasn’t always a factor for this team. The Guardians sent him back to Triple-A Columbus at one point, but not because he wasn’t part of their plans.
In fact, they didn’t hesitate to recall him as soon as they needed to expand their rotation to close out the season. He finished on a very high note, proving to be more than ready for the challenge.
Now, along with Parker Messick, he should be a strong candidate to not only make the Opening Day roster but also be a part of the starting rotation throughout the season. He has poise and command, and, more importantly, the mental strength to succeed.
The Guardians will always get the job done on the mound. While they could use some more firepower on offense, they can rest assured that their pitchers won’t let them down.
