The Cleveland Guardians are Jose Ramirez’s team.
That will continue to be the case for as long as the superstar third baseman is there.
Nevertheless, he doesn’t sound too happy with the organization right now.
Earlier in the offseason, he called out the front office for not holding up its end of their deal.
He claimed that he agreed to take a hometown discount on his latest contract so the organization could surround him with more talent, and it didn’t do so.
With that in mind, Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report proposed a blockbuster trade that would send Ramirez to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Blue Jays get: 3B Jose Ramirez
Guardians get: 3B/OF Addison Barger, SS JoJo Parker (Blue Jays No. 2), SS Arjun Nimmala (Blue Jays No. 3)“The Blue Jays reportedly attempted to trade for Ramírez in 2022. They have gone on to bigger and better things since then, but they’ll need to make splashes this winter if they want to maximize their odds of defending their AL pennant. A trade for Ramírez would soften the blow of Bo Bichette’s likely departure, and would give Vladimir Guerrero Jr. a superstar partner in crime. And for their part, Cleveland would get two top-100 prospects and a ready-made replacement at third base in Barger, who had a breakout year in his age-25 season,” Rymer wrote.
It’s worth noting that Ramirez has never requested a trade or hinted at a desire to leave.
If anything, he was just trying to put pressure on the front office so it would make some moves this offseason.
Yet, if the Guardians want to do right by him and send him to a contender while replenishing their already strong farm system, this trade would make some sense.
They already made a big deal with the Blue Jays during the season when they traded ace Shane Bieber to Toronto for top pitching prospect Khal Stephen.
That said, this would be a massive blow to Cleveland’s aspirations and wouldn’t send the right message.
This is pure speculation, and even if the Guardians were to get two elite prospects, it’s hard to believe any fan would look at this move favorably.
