The Cleveland Browns have a bit of a logjam in the middle of the infield.
As such, they need to figure out what to do with so many options.
Juan Brito will be a crucial part of their plans in the next couple of years, and he’s one of the guys they need to decide what to do with.
With that in mind, Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com reported that the Guardians may have already made up their minds about his position:
“I don’t get the impression that the Guardians view Brito as a shortstop. First, however, he has to recover from the left hamstring injury that cut his season short and required surgery. I think he fits into their plans more as a second baseman or potentially an outfield option. Brito’s offensive potential is intriguing, and there’s a chance the Guards could be granted a fourth option on Brito, which would give them another year of control over the switch-hitter,” Hoynes wrote.
Getting that additional year of control would be crucial for this team.
It would give them much more time to assess where he fits better.
Brito has the potential to be one of the best hitters on the team, and his switch-hitting skills clearly make him worth keeping involved and getting as many chances as he can possibly get.
Then again, that will be way easier said than done, all things considered.
The Guardians also have Angel Martinez, Daniel Schneemann, Brayan Rocchio, and Gabriel Arias there, looking for playing time.
Rocchio and Arias should be in the lead to start, given that they closed out the season as the starters.
Also, the Guardians will call up Travis Bazzana at some point in the season, barring injuries.
Brito should still be a part of their plans, and they might be wise to give him a shot in the outfield and see how he does.
This is a great problem to have for Stephen Vogt and his coaching staff.
