The Cleveland Guardians needed more from Jhonkensy Noel.
The young outfielder was a liability for most of the season.
As shown by Sleeper Guardians on X, he logged a mediocre batting average of .162.
He also had a .480 OPS, six home runs, 13 runs batted in, and a -1.3 WAR.

That’s clearly not what they had in mind when they gave him a chance to play every day at the beginning of the season.
Noel had been one of their postseason heroes last season, and he looked poised to have a career year and showcase his impressive powers and physical tools for Stephen Vogt’s team.
That wasn’t the case, and he wound up losing his job and his spot on the 40-man roster.
Ultimately, he worked his way back up with some solid months at Triple-A Columbus, and he closed out the season on a high and promising note.
There are still reasons to believe that he can be a positive factor for this offense.
He’s still pretty young, and he’s already shown what he’s capable of when he’s in the zone.
Then again, he might have a tough time getting on the field or getting regular at-bats next season.
With C.J. Kayfus, George Valera, and Chase DeLauter all in the mix to get some playing time in the outfield, Noel might not have much of a chance.
Still, the team will be wise to keep him around and keep investing time and resources in helping him become the dominant slugger he can definitely be.
