The Cleveland Guardians were in big need of some help to save their season.
Once again, Brayan Rocchio was there to deliver.
The young second baseman was at his best again in Game 2, hitting a go-ahead home run that made franchise history, according to MLB insider Sarah Langs:
“Brayan Rocchio’s home run came on a 99.9 mph pitch. That’s the 5th-fastest pitch a Cleveland player has homered off of under pitch tracking (2008 including playoffs) and fastest since Oscar Mercado off 100.0 mph on 8/4/21,” Langs posted on X.

Rocchio has been through a whole lot this season.
He was supposed to be the starting shortstop, but his offensive struggles cost him his spot and even his place on the team.
Fortunately for him, he was able to make the most of his time back in the minors to get his groove and his confidence back, and he’s been a steady contributor since he rejoined the team to round up the middle of the infield alongside SS Gabriel Arias.
Rocchio was also the hero of the final game of the season, hitting a walk-off, three-run home run that helped the Guardians clinch the AL Central Division, against all odds.
This goes to show that it’s usually too early to give up on young players.
It’s also a testament to the hard work he’s put in throughout the course of the season, and to how well Stephen Vogt and his coaching staff have managed the personnel.
Rocchio’s future with the team is still a bit of a question mark, as No. 1 prospect Travis Bazzana is firmly expected to be called up at some point next season.
That’s why he needs to keep making the most of these opportunities to prove that he belongs.
