The Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers have split the first two games of their AL Wild Card Series, setting up a winner-take-all Game 3 showdown.
Cleveland evened the series on Wednesday with a commanding 6-1 victory at Progressive Field after dropping the opener to Detroit.
With elimination on the line, both teams understand the stakes heading into Thursday’s decisive matchup.
Manager Stephen Vogt reflected on the victory and the team’s offensive struggles during his postgame interview with reporters.
“Those last couple of innings were not easy to see… It was a frustrating day offensively for us, two hits leading into the eighth, and for our guys to explode like that and kind of get some separation, felt really good,” Vogt said.

The Guardians fell behind in Game 1 against Detroit left-hander Tarik Skubal but bounced back with a complete performance in Game 2.
Cleveland struggled offensively through seven innings, managing just two hits while locked in a 1-1 tie.
The breakthrough came in the eighth inning when the Guardians exploded for five runs, including two home runs, to seize control and secure the win.
The offensive surge combined with solid pitching allowed Cleveland to swing momentum back in their favor.
Detroit had been one win away from advancing before Wednesday’s loss shifted the series dynamic.
Game 3 will demand a complete effort from the Guardians, particularly from their pitching staff, where depth could prove critical.
Cleveland’s timely hitting and dependable bullpen performance suggest they have moved past their early struggles.
With Game 3 set for Thursday, the Guardians will look to their postseason experience and composure under pressure to advance to the AL Division Series.
