The Cleveland Guardians are not known for being big spenders.
That’s why it’s shocking to see a player who is not on their current roster being one of the highest earners on the payroll.
Unfortunately for them, that’s exactly the case here.
Twitter account @OurCLEGuardians reminded us the highest paid players on the Guardians, and one name raises everybody’s attention.
“Highest paid Guardians in 2024: $17 M – Jose Ramirez, $12.2 M- Shane Bieber (estimate), $8.5 M – Jean Segura (chillin’ somewhere). Also, Myles Straw and Ramon Laureano will make a combined $10 M,” they tweeted.

Segura was part of the trade that sent Josh Bell to the Miami Marlins in early August, before the deadline.
Bell, a prominent free-agent signing by the Guardians before the season, didn’t pan out in Cleveland.
The Guards traded him for Segura and Khalil Watson.
They then released Segura, soon to be 34 years old.
The infielder had a .556 OPS in 85 games with the Marlins and he wasn’t in the best shape physically speaking.
He reportedly weighted 235 pounds in August but has slimmed down and is now closer to 215.
He is currently a free agent and looking for a new job.
In the meantime, the Guardians are on the hook for his entire $8.5 million salary for 2024 and for a $2 million buyout in 2025.
It’s certainly not an ideal situation, but it shouldn’t be something that Cleveland can’t or won’t overcome.
The team is still seeking offensive help and has placed two excellent pitchers, Shane Bieber and Emmanuel Clase, on the trade block.
