The Cleveland Guardians need to wake up.
Their offense has gone ice-cold over the past couple of weeks or so again, and they need to shake things up and add a little more spice at the plate.
With that in mind, Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com pointed to three potential call-up candidates to help their case for the final stretch of the season: OFs George Valera, Jhonkensy Noel, and Petey Halpin:
“Since 2020, teams can expand their 26-man rosters by only two players. Before that, teams could bring up their entire 40-man roster if they wanted. I’d like to see outfielder Petey Halpin get a look, he’s had a solid season. Jhonkensy Noel and George Valera, who hit for the cycle Friday night, are interesting candidates as well,” Hoynes wrote.
The Guardians have struggled to find much offensive production from their outfielders this season.
Even Steven Kwan has had some issues at the plate.
C.J. Kayfus has been a welcome and solid addition to the roster, but banking all hopes on a rookie isn’t going to get many teams that far.
Granted, all of those players are also young and inexperienced for the most part, but they can all bring some power to the table, which is something this team has been lacking since the start of the season.
Noel has turned the page since being sent back to the minors after a dreadful start to the season, and the potential has always been there.
We already saw what he could do when the stakes were high in the playoffs last season, and perhaps he just needed to get his groove back to get back to that usual self.
Whatever the case, the Guardians need to do something, and if this season is going to go to waste, they might as well give the youngsters a taste of MLB action.
