The Cleveland Guardians have one of the most valuable outfielders in the game in Steven Kwan.
We got a glimpse of how much attention he can get from other teams before last Thursday’s trade deadline.
In fact, recent reports suggest that the San Diego Padres were willing to discuss top prospect Leo De Vries before sending him to the Athletics in the Mason Miller deal.
The Guardians ended up keeping Kwan, which is why their chances of making the postseason are real.
Kwan contributes on offense, with a 110 wRC+ this year and a 116 career mark.
He also helps in the baserunning department, having stolen 11 bases in 2025 so far.
Defense is where he really thrives, though.
He makes excellent reads and runs fantastic routes in left field.
His best tool, however, might be his throwing arm.
It’s strong and accurate, and allows him to lead the league in outfield assists, as the Guardians highlighted on X on Tuesday.

With ten outfield assists, Kwan currently clears Mike Yastrzemski and Jordan Beck, both with nine.
If you take a look at Kwan’s physique, you probably wouldn’t think he has such a strong arm, but he does.
It’s freakishly accurate, too, and he has shown it time and again over the course of his career.
It’s not a one-season wonder, either: Kwan has, since making his MLB debut in 2022, 36 outfield assists.
He had seven in his debut campaign, 10 in 2023, nine last year, and 10 in 2025, with almost two months left to play.
If you are a baserunner in MLB, just take our word of advice: don’t test Kwan’s arm.
