Ever since the Cleveland Guardians lost 10 consecutive games in late June and early July, they have shown marked improvement as a team.
After that horrible stretch, the team has gone 16-7, showing they are serious about making the postseason, even though they didn’t really acquire anyone who could help the MLB squad at the deadline.
A big reason behind that surge is the improved play of the Guards’ middle infield duo.
Entering the season, Brayan Rocchio and Gabriel Arias were seen as talented players but offensive underachievers.
Rocchio was demoted after a few weeks of offensive struggles, and Arias had cooled off significantly at the moment of his ankle injury in late June.
Right now, however, both infielders have been red-hot at the plate, which gives Cleveland a nice offensive floor and probably has a lot to do with their recent run as a team.
“Cleveland Guardians’ middle infielder has been producing of late. Rocchio’s last 23 games: AVG .303, OBP .329, SLG .487, OPS .816. Arias over 7 games since returning from injury: AVG .296 OBP .345 SLG .481 OPS .826,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

Rocchio produced in Triple-A and has carried the momentum well into his second MLB stint in 2025.
He is hitting for average and power, and while walking comes harder for him, he is leaving his mark offensively.
Arias has returned from the injured list with a bang, reminding Guardians fans what he is capable of at the plate.
If the two players manage to keep up their recent run, Cleveland might actually have a chance to advance to the postseason.
They were two black holes in the lineup last year, but they are slowly developing into reliable hitters.
