After months of lifeless offense led the Cleveland Guardians to a .500 record with little hope of things turning around, the Cleveland Guardians finally called up one of their highly-touted bats by bringing outfielder/first baseman C.J. Kayfus to the big leagues on Saturday for his MLB debut.
Kayfus went 0-for-4 with an RBI in the team’s 5-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, and he shared an honest admission after the game about his debut.
After collecting his first RBI, the top-100 prospect was overjoyed and glad to get the crowd on his side early.
“Hearing the fans and the crowd behind me was honestly like nothing I’ve ever felt before,” Kayfus said.

Cleveland has gotten abysmal production out of its outfield in 2025 aside from Steven Kwan, while Carlos Santana looks like he is on his last legs at first base as well.
Fans were pounding the table for Kayfus to come up months ago, as he has a .929 OPS across Double-A and Triple-A this season with 14 homers, 18 doubles, and eight triples.
With Cleveland still fighting for a Wild Card spot during an easy portion of the schedule, the Guardians need some thump in this lineup, and if Kayfus can produce consistently, he’ll likely find himself playing every day.
Kayfus is just 23 years old, and it was great to see him get his first RBI out of the way in the second inning, when he got Cleveland’s first run on the board.
That surely allowed him to breathe a bit, and hopefully, tomorrow will bring more firsts for the young slugger.
