C.J. Kayfus, the Cleveland Guardians’ No. 4 prospect, is making his MLB debut on Saturday afternoon against the Minnesota Twins.
The news of his call-up to the major leagues was revealed by Guardians Prospective on Friday night.
At long last, Cleveland will give the young slugger a chance to show what he’s made of.
He will play a position in which Cleveland badly needs someone to provide even league-average production: right field.
From Jhonkensy Noel to Nolan Jones and Johnathan Rodriguez, no one has been able to be even decent in right field for the Guardians in 2025.
They hope the trend stops with Kayfus, a consensus top 100 prospect in MLB.
He appears in the eighth spot of Cleveland’s lineup for Saturday’s game, just ahead of ninth hitter Brayan Rocchio.

If he wants a prominent, middle-of-the-order spot, he will have to earn it with his play.
Kayfus did earn his call-up with excellent offensive stats both in Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus.
In Double-A, he posted a 211 wRC+ in 18 games, with a homer, four doubles, and four triples.
Then, after being bumped to the Columbus Clippers, he slashed a solid .283/.367/.526 with a 134 wRC+ in 289 trips to the plate.
He logged 14 doubles, four triples, and 14 round-trippers at the majors’ doorstep.
As you can see, Kayfus’ offensive game is versatile: the only thing he doesn’t do is steal bases regularly, but he can hit for average, gap, and over-the-fence power, and knows how to get a walk.
He does strike out a lot, but the potential for being an above-average MLB hitter is there from the get-go.
