The moment that many Cleveland Guardians fans have hoped for is finally here.
After a rather middling trade deadline, the Guardians needed something to keep fans engaged.
They needed to remind them that they are still fighting for something in 2025 and not just thinking about 2026 and beyond.
That statement has come in the form of a promotion from Triple-A.
No, it’s not Chase DeLauter because he is injured.
However, it’s another young, impact hitter who is very much part of the future of the Guardians: C.J. Kayfus.
“The Cleveland Guardians are promoting 23-year-old (1B/OF) prospect C.J. Kayfus from Triple-A Columbus,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

There are legitimate questions about Kayfus’ bat and glove: he is not the perfect prospect.
For starters, he doesn’t have a clear defensive home, but can play first base and the outfield corners.
Additionally, he struck out a ton in Triple-A, at a 27.3 percent clip.
However, even with those things working against him, he is probably the Guards’ best option to plug and play in right field against right-handed pitchers.
Kayfus, as of Friday evening, is slashing a cool .283/.367/.526 with a 134 wRC+ in 68 games at Columbus.
He also has 13 home runs, 14 doubles, and four triples at the level.
Yes, he strikes out at a high clip, but he also inflicts damage on contact, knows how to take a walk, and has surprising gap and over-the-fence power.
It remains to be seen how Guardians manager Stephen Vogt chooses to deploy him and how he adapts to major league pitching, but bringing up Kayfus was the right move for Cleveland at this juncture.
