Outfielder Steven Kwan has been part of the Cleveland Guardians organization since being drafted in the fifth round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
He made his debut in 2022, and fans were able to see, almost immediately, that he had All-Star potential.
He won Gold Gloves, he went to Midsummer Classics, and he showed a rare ability for major league hitters these days: accumulating more walks than strikeouts.
The man with the elite plate discipline and sound contact skills is now one of the most obvious trade candidates in the league.
He has been in the league long enough to understand that it’s part of the deal.
Guardians fans love him, but since he and the team haven’t agreed on an extension, the Guardians are exploring trade possibilities, and some say they are likely to move him.
For the player, it’s nice to feel wanted.
“It’s affirming. We’ve learned that in the minors, if you ever get traded for, it means somebody wants you. So to hear all these teams be attached is very flattering,” he told Ethan Sands of Cleveland.com.

He was asked if he would be open to an extension with the Guardians, and didn’t hesitate.
“I love it here. I love everything about this place. [If] they gave me the opportunity, I would love to.”
The front office hasn’t met his price tag, though.
After logging one hit in four plate appearances on Wednesday’s win, Kwan is hitting a solid .286/.350/.408 with nine home runs, 11 stolen bases, and a 114 wRC+.
He is being coveted by many contenders, most notably the reigning World Series champions: the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In less than 24 hours, Guardians fans will know Kwan’s fate.
