The Cleveland Guardians came into the 2025 season with high hopes after an AL Central crown and a trip to the ALCS, but thanks to a struggling offense, the team has found itself far from that level.
A recent losing streak had the season circling the drain, and the Guardians dropped in some power rankings.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report updated his power rankings through the All-Star Break and has the Guardians at No. 22 with the potential to climb.
“Though All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan went just 4-for-29 at the dish last week, Cleveland snapped its 10-game losing streak in the most impressive way possible with a road sweep of what was our No. 1 team one week ago. And if the Guardians come back from the break even remotely as hot as they entered it, the table is set for them to stampede back into the playoff picture, playing 13 consecutive games (10 at home) against teams we’ve already encountered in the bottom eight of these rankings,” Miller wrote.
Cleveland certainly did a nice job putting the losing streak behind it by sweeping the Houston Astros, which hopefully established some momentum that can be carried into the upcoming series with the Athletics and beyond.
If the Guardians are to keep things going, they need a few members of the offense to start pulling their weight.
Jose Ramirez, Steven Kwan and occasionally Carlos Santana and Kyle Manzardo carried the offense, and it will be up to Nolan Jones, Lane Thomas and David Fry to produce like they have in the past if this team is going to compete in the AL Wild Card race.
The Guardians have work to do to convince the front office that it shouldn’t sell at the trade deadline.
