The Cleveland Guardians got off to a strong start to the season.
Unfortunately, it seems like they’re heading towards rock bottom now, and unless the front office makes some bold moves, there’s just no way to turn this franchise around.
That’s why team insider Paul Hoynes believes the team is legitimately in trouble right now.
Talking on 92.3 The Fan, the Cleveland.com insider argued that perhaps it was time the front office decided to give the younger guys a look:
“They’re in trouble. They’ve lost nine straight. They were clinging to the Wild Card hope, but that’s disappeared. The door is pretty much shut on that. How does this team put a run, a good streak together? They just don’t score enough. They don’t hit enough. They’re going to have to make some decisions. Do you bring DeLauter up? Do you bring Kayfus up? You’re going to have to look at those guys eventually. The farther you get out of first place in the Wild Card race, the more it becomes, ‘OK, let’s let the kids play,’ and I think that’s where they’re headed,” Pluto said.

If the Guardians aren’t going to be buyers at the trade deadline, then there’s no point in delaying some call-ups.
They would essentially be giving up on the season if they trade some of their veterans, so they might as well give the fans something to root for and a reason to turn on the TV and watch.
Chase DeLauter was always expected to make his debut in the majors this season, and while an injury halted those plans for a while, he’s been killing it at Triple-A Columbus all year long.
C.J. Kayfus also looks like a prospect who might be ready to showcase his talents at the next stage.
The Guardians desperately need some offensive momentum and a strong spark, and while counting on rookies to do so might not be wise, they literally don’t have anything to lose and a lot to win.
If they’re not ready, they can just get some at-bats and continue to work on their games to be ready for the start of next season.
