The Cleveland Guardians continue to free-fall.
A once-promising season now seems broken beyond repair.
The offensive struggles have hit a new low, and unless they make some major moves, that’s not going to change.
That’s why it wasn’t a surprise to see them drop from No. 17 to No. 20 in Bleacher Report’s latest MLB power rankings.
Analyst Joel Reuter pointed out that the offensive woes are just too much to overlook right now.
“The Guardians have been shut out three times in their last four games, and they rank dead-last in the majors in batting average (.206), OPS (.606) and runs per game (2.88) during June. They simply don’t have a source of consistent offensive production outside of Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan,” Reuter wrote.
The Guardians were 9-16 in June.
They can’t find anybody to support Ramirez in the lineup, as even Kwan has cooled off after his red-hot start.
The Guardians had been one of the best second-half teams in the game, hurting opposing teams’ bullpens and dominating when it mattered the most.
That wasn’t the case last month, and the bats have cooled off in a way not seen in years.
That .206 batting average was tied for the fourth-worst for a single month in franchise history.
All in all, the Guardians are still flirting with .500, and as crazy as it may seem, they’re not out of the AL Wild Card race.
Nevertheless, it will take a couple of moves to get back on track.
Unfortunately, reports suggest the Guardians aren’t looking to acquire more talent.
If anything, they will most likely look to offload some players at the trade deadline.
