The Cleveland Guardians are starved for offense.
The organization often tries to maximize everybody’s defensive talents while doing the best they can offensively.
How about trying to maximize offense and losing a bit of defense? After all, the team’s biggest issue is its offensive production.
With this in mind, Guardians Prospective proposed an idea: Move Steven Kwan to center field and promote young stars Chase DeLauter and C.J. Kayfus.
“Guardians OF Steven Kwan, in 220 minor league games, he started in CF 152 times. In 2022 during his rookie season he made four starts in CF and hasn’t played there since. I know organization would be reluctant to move him to CF because he’s a perennial Gold Glove winner there (in left field) and plays the wall in left so well at home. This team, however, is so starved for offense, and this move could help free up spots for both Chase DeLauter and C.J. Kayfus. CF Kwan, LF Kayfus, RF DeLauter,” it wrote.
Just thinking out loud while I can't sleep…

It makes sense on paper, but the key component of this plan would be getting Kwan to play center field and accepting the increased injury risk with that move.
Center field is more demanding, which doesn’t bode well for a player with a history of hamstring problems.
Perhaps the Guardians can try it for a stretch, given the fact that both Kayfus and DeLauter seem ready to be called up.
The former boasts a 152 wRC+ with 25 extra-base hits in 50 games at Columbus, while the latter is sporting a 149 wRC+ there.
Guardians Prospective also explains that Cleveland could incorporate Angel Martinez or Johnathan Rodriguez as part of a platoon with either young prospect, as DeLauter and Kayfus are both left-handed.
This would leave Nolan Jones without consistent playing time.
It may be unlikely that the Guardians use this blueprint, but in theory, it doesn’t sound bad.
