The Cleveland Guardians were swept at home by the St. Louis Cardinals.
They might have lost more than just a game, though.
In the third inning, shortstop Gabriel Arias was forced to leave after awkwardly catching his cleat in the turf while trying to make a play.

The play resulted in a left ankle sprain, and X-rays were negative.
However, Arias needs more imaging to really know the extent of the injury.
It looked serious and painful.
After the loss, Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt provided an update on the team’s plans.
He said Arias will have an MRI on his ankle and that he felt for Arias as he checked on him after the scary play.
“You don’t want to see anybody get hurt,” Vogt told Cleveland.com. “It’s just scary when you see somebody in that much pain, you don’t know what it could be. Hopefully we get some decent news tomorrow. But you just feel for him.”
Even though X-rays came back negative, the MRI will give the Guardians a better idea about how much time Arias is going to miss.
The infielder wasn’t hitting much as of late, but he has contributed a lot this season and was sporting a .231/.293/.369 line with 17 doubles, six home runs and a .661 OPS at the time of his injury.
He replaced Brayan Rocchio as Cleveland’s starting shortstop a few weeks ago.
Regardless of the exact diagnosis, he is likely headed to the injured list.
The Guardians, however, are hoping to have him back relatively soon.
