Things got a bit messy in Thursday’s series finale between the Cleveland Guardians and the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays ended up getting a 6-0 win to take the series, but the game featured a series of hit-by-pitches that resulted in two stars being removed.
In the top of the third, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was hit by a Tanner Bibee pitch and had to leave the game an inning later.
Then, Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman plunked Jose Ramirez in the fourth, and the Guardians’ third baseman also had to be taken out.
Ramirez left the game in the fifth frame, being replaced by Daniel Schneemann at the hot corner.
Guardians insider Tim Stebbins reported some more details about Ramirez’s injury.
“José Ramírez left with a bruised right forearm. X-rays were negative,” he wrote on X.

At one point, Guardians manager Stephen Vogt appeared to be yelling something at the Blue Jays’ dugout, probably related to Gausman’s hit by pitch.
The Guardians weren’t happy because Gausman did it with his first pitch against Ramirez, a sign that it might have been on purpose in retaliation for what happened to Guerrero.
That one was, in all likelihood, accidental.
The silver lining here is that X-rays performed on Ramirez’s forearm came back negative.
There is still no word about his availability for the weekend, but he might be back in Friday’s lineup if there is no pain or swelling.
It’s wise to wait for an official update from the team either later on Thursday or early on Friday.
