The Cleveland Guardians lost on Tuesday at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Designated hitter David Fry went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and is hitting .139 with a .250 slugging percentage.
Right fielders Johnathan Rodriguez and Nolan Jones couldn’t log a hit, even if the latter did have an RBI.
The offensive ineptitude of the Guardians can be partially explained by their own lack of initiative, because they could have some solutions in their own minor league system.
Top position player prospect C.J. Kayfus homered again on Tuesday, in Triple-A, hitting a grand slam that traveled 431 feet and left his bat at 107.5 mph.
It was yet another day in the office for the extra-base hit machine.
“Love this stat… Since the start of the 2024 season, Kayfus has 81 XBH over 170 games! 2B – 41, 3B – 14, HR – 26,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

Yes, the Guardians know more than anyone else that the jump in talent level between Triple-A and the majors is the biggest in the ladder.
And yes, the positional fit is not the best, at least in Kayfus’ case.
However, it doesn’t hurt to try.
It doesn’t hurt to make some sacrifices and accommodate one of the best and hottest hitters in the organization.
Few players on the major league roster can offer the kind of pop Kayfus showcases on a nightly basis.
If they need quality hitters, and Kayfus has done nothing but hit in the upper minors for two straight years (evidenced by the 81 extra-base hits in 170 contests), they are losing valuable time by not calling him up.
Any potential acclimation period would probably be better than what they get at certain positions.
