The Cleveland Guardians’ offense is well below average.
It’s one of the least productive lineups not just among contenders, but also in the entire league.
The cold, hard numbers don’t lie.
Cleveland sports analyst Bruce Drennan expressed concern about the group as a whole and urged the team to do something.
“We rank 27th out of 30 teams in the Major Leagues, in offensive production,” Drennan said.
The outfield's offensive production HAS to improve for the #Guardians to make a run.

It’s unclear which offensive stat he used to make that statement, but the point is very much true.
He then followed that up with a sad, but true quote: ‘You can’t win a championship like that.’
Even the best pitching teams throughout history need at least a functional offense to consistently win, especially in the postseason.
The Guardians, according to FanGraphs, rank dead last out of 30 teams in outfield OPS, with a .611 mark.
If we use an advanced offensive metric like wRC+, they rank 29th with a 72 mark.
It’s fair to point out that the Guardians’ outfield has enjoyed solid, above-average play by left fielder Steven Kwan.
It’s important to really understand just how bad their center and right fielders have been.
Nolan Jones, Jhonkensy Noel (already demoted), Lane Thomas, Angel Martinez, and others just haven’t been playing well offensively, and the offense as a whole feels it.
If the Guardians manage to bring in at least a couple of respectable outfielders to round out the unit, their offense will significantly improve as a result.
It could be as easy as calling up Chase DeLauter or C.J. Kayfus.
However, bringing in help via trade might be more expensive than the Guardians would probably like to pay via prospects.
Either way, if they want to go far, they can’t keep running their current outfield.
It’s a recipe for failure.
