The Cleveland Guardians just got another glimpse of Luis L. Ortiz’s talent.
The former Pittsburgh Pirates hurler has been inconsistent this season, but he’s been utterly dominant when he’s been in control.
That was the case again in the 4-2 win over the Athletics on Saturday.
As pointed out by Tim Stebbins on X, he tied his career high in strikeouts (10).
Luis Ortiz goes 6 IP, 2 H, 2 BB and 10 K

Fanning 10 hitters was impressive on its own, but if you consider the fact that he only allowed two hits and issued two walks in six scoreless innings, that’s pretty much a masterpiece.
He’s struggled to stay in control, and you never know what version of him you’re going to get, but the talent is pretty palpable.
Ortiz entered Saturday’s contest having allowed 10 runs in 10.2 frames in his last two starts, so it was nice to see him bounce back and gain his confidence back with a much-needed dominant outing.
Now, he’s scheduled to take the mound again when the Guardians host the St. Louis Cardinals at home for his next start.
He’s got the makings of an ace, provided that he can be more consistent.
The Guardians will also need to do a better job of providing offensive support, as their offense continues to be ice-cold.
On another positive note, star closer Emmanuel Clase pitched a 1-2-3 inning to record his 17th save in 20 chances.
